Wildbark Visitor Centre, Mulligans FlatCommercial
Description of services
Nestled within Australia’s largest box-gum grassy-woodland reserve, Wildbark provides a welcome and education space within Mulligans Flat’s large predator-free nature reserve. The visitor centre provides both indoor and outdoor education spaces, meeting areas, a research area, restrooms and a café.
Designed with two sweeping curves of roof atop rammed earth walls, the hybrid steel and glulam timber structure perfectly complements the natural feel of the space, bringing the outside inside. The use of such a variety of materials meant each had its own challenges for Sellick to overcome. As a pioneering use of mass timber construction in Canberra, Sellick ensured all the exposed connections were as appealing as the rest of the building, it required a strong appreciation for timber and its own unique properties. Sellick designed the hybrid steel-timber roof to be supported by the structural rammed earth walls, requiring some first-principles calculations to ensure the wall wouldn’t crack even in the largest of storms. The curved and multi-level roof also posed unique challenges which Sellick overcame by working closely with Clarke Kellar architects to ensure the structure blended seamlessly with the complex geometry.

Description of services
Sellick Consultants were engaged to undertake the structural design services for 6 Brindabella Circuit for Capital Airport Group. The building consisted of two 5 story towers of office space, each including an internal atrium. The suspended ground floor podium with commercial tenancies and full underground basement carpark connect both building towers. The two towers are covered by a structural steelwork roof which extends 25m over the external ground atrium and is supported on six 25m tall steel feature columns.
The structural scope included design and documentation of all shoring and foundations, slabs on grade and suspended reinforced and post tensioned slabs, vertical support elements – insitu & precast concrete walls, insitu columns and structural steelwork roof.
In summary, the building’s design combines innovative structural elements with modern aesthetics, creating a striking and functional space for its occupants while ensuring safety and longevity.

DKSN (North)MIXED USE RESIDENTIAL
Description of services
The DKSN (North) development includes two 7 story residential towers and two 6 story commercial towers over 2 levels of basement parking, DKSN (North) is a mixed-use development featuring 190 apartments and over 8,000m2 of retail space including a mini-supermarket, medical suits, gymnasium and “Eat Street” – A retail space with multiple dining options echoing Melbourne’s Laneway dining.
Sellick’s structural scope included design and documentation of shoring, foundations, slabs on grade, vertical elements and suspended concrete slabs. The horizontal structure is comprised of post-tensioned concrete slabs, consisting of transfer structures at Ground Floor and Level 1 to transfer building loads to the foundations whilst maintaining the basement carpark layout. To maximise speed of construction, loadbearing structural walls, lift walls and stair walls were constructed out of precast concrete.

Description of services
71C is a mixed-use complex designed by COX Architecture, situated on the northern edge of the parliamentary triangle on Constitution Avenue in Campbell, A.C.T. It is comprised of 70 apartments over a 7-storey tower and a further 8, 3-storey townhouses, with 2.5 levels of basement carparking. There are also 2 levels of commercial space on Ground and Mezzanine levels with communal landscaped areas.
The structure is reinforced and post-tensioned concrete, consisting of 2 levels of transfer at Ground Floor and Mezzanine to transfer building loads to the foundations whilst maximising the basement carpark layout, which utilized the full site extent to the neighbouring boundaries. Sellick Consultants made full use of 3D analysis and Building Information Modelling (BIM) capabilities, to ensure the new structure didn’t clash with the existing adjacent structures or in-ground services. BIM coordination was also undertaken with the architect and other consultants, to ensure individual building elements and services were fully coordinated throughout the design process.
Precast concrete was used for all loadbearing structural walls and lift & stair cores, to ensure ease and speed of construction on site. A structural steel framed roof to the Level 7 penthouse apartment maximised the architectural dimensions, by ensuring efficient use of steel sizes and column locations.

The developments included 136 residential units spread across 6 buildings and 4 blocks. The development included two basements, each shared by three buildings and across two blocks. The waste strategy was highly technical with many aspects of the TCCS Waste Code being unachievable, resulting in ongoing discussions and out of the box solutions to gain TCCS endorsement.

Molonglo School in Denman Prospect (Evelyn Scott School) constructed with Joss Group included a 3,000m2 General Purpose Hall along with five hard surface playing courts and a sports oval for use by multiple sports and Community groups on a site of approximately 3.5Ha. Development also included an ELC and three separated carparks with approximately 18m fall across the block requiring 60,000m3 of earth being moved.

Canberra Grammar School Music Centre & Terry Snow Auditorium Education Secondary
Description of services
A partially subterranean 5 storey development, expanding up to 12meters underground – The Canberra Grammar Auditorium and Music centre includes a new library and music rooms, classrooms and a 1,300 seat acoustically tuned music auditorium. The development interconnects with the existing breezeway and forecourt of the school’s heritage Quadrangle. This project was constrained by the existing heritage building, immediately adjacent the proposed auditorium whilst providing access for construction.
The team had to overcome many unique challenges in delivering this project. From long-span steel trusses over the auditorium, which support a terrace and planting over, to cantilevered steel framed bleacher and auditorium seating which had to be carefully analysed to avoid footfall-induced vibration issues, Sellick ensured the right solution was used in the right place. The heritage-listed school buildings next to the construction needed careful shoring design to ensure ground movements were minimal while the auditorium was excavated, and suspended concrete roof slabs were optimised to minimise the risk of cracking and any water ingress issues, including the use of low carbon, low shrinkage Envisia concrete.
Ground water was a major concern from the beginning of the project, a comprehensive design was developed to manage the constant ground water inflow with emergency pump chambers and back-up generator connection, should a power failure occurring during a storm event to prevent the lower levels of the theatre flooding. Podium level and roof level above the practice rooms and main theatre required high attention in detail to ensure the water proofing and water shedding design worked flawlessly.

Beverage Grade Distillery 2Commercial

The Beverage Grade Distillery 2 (BGD2) is a world class facility that is the largest of its kind in South East Asia, creating 100 percent pure Australian spirits. The massive cylinder columns in which the ethanol is produced make it the tallest distillery in the Southern Hemisphere.
Standing over 50m tall, 330 Tonnes of structural steel make up the spaceframe that encases the distillery’s towering cylinder columns and supports more than 5.5km of stainless-steel pipework. With a complex network of hydraulic and serviceable systems, access points and equipment lifts are moulded into the design along with a seamless transition to structure of the original distillery (BGD1).
Sellick Consultants were engaged as structural consultants to work closely with industry counterparts from Italy, Germany and Australia, combining our expertise with the disciplines of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, systems, and chemical engineering to deliver a state-of-the-art facility. All structural components of the design were the responsibility of Sellick, including the dynamic load effects of operating machinery, stabilising of externally designed distillery systems, foundations, and the construction & post-construction phases of the project.

Waves Carwash Express Phillip is a Multi Storey Commercial development across 2 blocks.
Designed by DNA Architects in the Commercial district of Phillip, A.C.T the development consists of a Double storey structure, with each leveling housing their own Mezzanine, a Commercial Carwash with state-of-the-art automated carwash tunnel, detailing conveyor system, self-serve wash bays, automatic car wash bays, dog washes, a standalone drive through or dine-in Takeaway and service station all on Ground floor. Along with 10 commercial tenancies spanning across 1450m² on the upper level.
Sellick consultants were engaged to provide Civil, Hydraulic and Structural engineering services for this project. The design included a high level of documentation surrounding the necessary carwash drainage, water supply and substantial water recycling system & sewerage treatment facilities in accordance with local authorities’ requirements.

Description of services
This project which consisted of four basement levels of carparking, with a 15 storey tower overhead consisting of commercial tenancies on ground floor, a Gym and Sauna on level 1 and 200 residential apartments from level 1 and up.
The civil design included a complex land swap arrangement with TCCS with the development owning multiple levels of basement carpark underneath the ground floor landscaped area to be owned and maintained by TCCS. There were also multiple services relocations including a 6m deep sewermain.

Description of services

Access to the basement levels of parking is obtained through the neighbouring Creswell Apartments.

KashmirResidential Apartments
Description of services
Kashmir is the second building to be constructed as part of the SOHO development in Dickson. The building comprises of 141 residential units over 2 buildings of 8 stories, plus rooftop communal areas. Kashmir also contains 3 levels of basement parking below ground floor. The site also contains a heritage curtilage, within which lies an existing heritage listed building that is to be preserved within the redeveloped precinct. Sellick Consultants used their extensive experience in the preservation of existing buildings to come up with a structural design that would reduce the risk of movement of the heritage building.

82 Wentworth is an apartment building designed by Stewart Architecture in the heart of Kingston, A.C.T. Comprised of 1,2 & 3 bedroom apartments over 6 floors. There are large landscaped areas on ground floor and Level 5, as well as a large park at the rear of the building. With ground piers hard against the neighbouring boundary, Sellick made full use of our 3D analysis and drafting capabilities to ensure the new structure didn’t clash with the existing, therefore there were zero clashes during construction.
This is one of the first projects in the ACT to use Austral Double Wall Precast, giving a better precast finish and lighter panels for easy installation. Sellick’s strong understanding of fundamental engineering principles meant this new system was easily included in our design. The FoundryResidential Apartments
Description of services
The Foundry consists of 3 separate buildings ranging in heights of 4,5 & 7 stories. The Foundry is within easy reach of the beach, bushland and CBD – built in Adamstown, a suburb of Newcastle. The development was designed by Stewart Architecture and contains a gym, large courtyards for the apartments and a large landscaped area on the ground floor.
With a heavily sloped site (up to 3 storeys deep into the ground), Sellick worked hard to get an in-ground solution that was as efficient as possible, including using flying props to minimise shoring anchors.

Sellick Consultants was engaged to undertake the civil engineering services for this project under a partnership with Amalgamated Property Group, Construction Control, May + Russell Architects & Cox Architecture. Civic Quarter is 12 storey office building that offers a mix of retail and café spaces.
The Civil Design includes a new entry to Mort Street with an internal laneway that will be used to access basement carparking for CQ1 and a future development (CQ2). The internal laneway also allows for waste collection for both developments and a new driveway exit onto Northbourne Avenue. Documentation was inclusive of Landscape Management, Sediment Erosion control, Demolition Works, Temporary Traffic Management, Bulk Earthworks, Stormwater Servicing, Grading, Turning Demonstrations and Waste Management.

The Grounds BraddonMixed use residential

Sellick consultants was engaged to undertake Hydraulic, Structure and Civil works for this project. The Grounds Braddon consists of an eight-story apartment tower, three terrace buildings and seven townhouse buildings in close proximity to the Canberra city centre and overlooking Northbourne Oval.
The Hydraulic scope included the design and documentation of domestic sanitary drainage, water services, stormwater drainage and fire services from initial design stages through construction and post construction phases. Incorporation of the ‘Pipe system and building design’ Australian patent referenced as the Sellicks Innovation patent was utilised to reduce pipe and stack sizes and to minimise construction costs for this project. Existing Telstra asbestos conduits running diagonally through the work site provided additional challenge to the project, a higher level of detail coordination was essential for successfully delivery. This project was also one of the first large scale residential projects to include installation of individual instantaneous electric hot wat heaters in all apartments and townhouses.

Aero apartments defining feature is the speckled brick façade that comprises of ‘floating’ brick spandrels at the roof level where Sellicks scope included the structural steelwork to support the brick elements.

Sellick Consultants was engaged to undertake the structural engineering services for this project – The project consisted of 2 stages.
Stage 1 : A back of house subterranean level and 4 levels of carpark above ground, with a further 5 levels of hotel accommodation and 2 levels of commercial tenancies above that. This stage included design and documentation to demolition and removal of existing building, shoring, foundations, all flatwork (horizontal slabs – on grade and suspended/post-tensioned), all vertical elements (insitu concrete columns, insitu concrete walls as well as precast columns and precast walls, concrete stairs) as well as all roof support and lower awning steel work and the steelwork used to support facades which also acts as vehicle impact barriers at the carpark levels.
Stage 2 : Stage 2 consisted of the addition of 3 extra levels of carpark suspended above the roof of the existing Club. This stage was quite complex as it required the suspended floors to be constructed above a fully operational club below, while also having to re-strengthen existing structure built many years ago to withstand additional loads from proposed suspended floors above. This included the design and documentation to re-strengthening of existing building support foundations, all vertical elements (steelwork Columns, Composite steelwork floor support beams, all flatwork reinforced suspended slabs and all Steelwork supporting façades which also acts a s a vehicle impact barrier).

University of Canberra Integrated Cancer Centre – Carpark 28Carpark
Description of services
Design and document a new car park to offset the lost carpark as a result of the construction of the Integrated Cancer Centre. The new carpark is to be known as Carpark 28.
The design of the carpark was to service approximately 100spaces on the edge of the existing UC oval. The level constraints required the implementation of retaining walls between parking bays to accommodate the level difference. Gabion baskets were adopted as the retaining solution to act as both vehicle barrier and retaining solution.
During construction it was observed that the existing ground condition were not of an optimal type and thus a solution was required to enable continuation of the car park with significant delay and cost implication. A stabilised pavement was elected and implemented to bridge the unsuitable materials.

Sapphire is the last of the lakefront developments which has be designed by acclaimed architects Elenberg Fraser and documented by local Architectural firm May Russell, reflecting the natural beauty of its location.
Sellick Facades have provided the pre-engineering for façade system design and selection, along with market intelligence, to assist the lead architect in their design of this first class residential project. Our services have led the architecture to market documentation for tender purposes for the façade contractors. Since award of the managing contractor, Sellick Façade have provided technical support of the incoming façade contractor to ensure the installed façade meets the architectural brief as well as meting the performance parameters of quality, environmentally sensitive design, maintenance, life span and energy usage.

Pialligo Estate – Pavilion
Description of services
The client was committed to opening two pavilions at the Pialligo estate for the Christmas period with only 6 weeks’ time frame for design and construction.
Sellick Consultants had to work closely with the engaged contractor to adopt and modify the design for available timber. Resourcing the timber proved difficult with initial supplies of hardwood too green to use in sections of the building, hence compromising on a ready supply of kiln dried timbers for the main roof sections and green timber posts with considered connections for movement.

Design documentation for a 127 blocks residential subdivision on the Carotel site in Watson ACT and the Superintendence of the construction phase.
The services also included full project management of all sub-consultants to deliver the subdivision on behalf of the client.
Of note are the central park area and the central loop road. The Central park provides a community use area incorporating existing vegetation and landscaping. While the surrounding road has been constructed of concrete with quartz and black aggregate. In addition to a landscape concrete interlocking paving is provided within the parking areas and interlocking permeable paving to provide additional watering to landscaped areas.
During the construction the history of the site was exposed as significantly historical inground services were exposed during the excavation for new inground services, all of which added additional cost and time to the project. Additionally a water quality pond has been constructed to filter the stormwater prior to releasing it into the downstream network.
Upon completion of the construction phase the project was successfully handed over to the ACT Government.

Isabella Pond Weir Upgrade – Construction advice/Temporary works for additional Dam wallsInfrastructure
Description of services
The Isabella pond weir upgrade required the installation of temporary Coffer Dams of differing configuration for the staged works to meet the required flood events. Consultation with the weir modellers was required to extrapolate the model testing loads for the temporary works.
The solution had to take into account water head pressures in excess of 8.0m including impact load from upstream debris. The dam had to be design so it could be removed and used for further stages of the construction programme on sloping embankments.
Consideration was given to varying forms of walling systems, including proprietary ones. A precast concrete option was ultimately selected, proving to be the most economical.

Description of services
Brema Group were the successful contractor to undertake the demolition of Macarthur House, a 10 level building located on one of Canberra’s main entry nodal points, at the intersection of Northbourne Avenue and Wakefield avenue.
As a prerequisite to works, Sellick Consultants were engaged to work with the contractor to develop a safe demolition procedure to ensure the public safety along the Northbourne corridor. In addition, an electrical sub station existed within the basement which had to be protected during demolition works.
Sellick Consultants were able to provide support in assessing the existing structure and developing a workable solution enabling the successful demolition of the building.

Jones Park Water Quality Upgrade, Brunswick East VictoriaInfrastructure
Description of services
The site, being located in Melbourne’s inner north, was originally a blue stone quarry dating back to the early 1800s. The quarry site was abandoned by the 1850s and backfilled in the 1970s with general building waste and mixed uncontrolled fill to aid forming the current parkland. The parkland area was primarily intended as an open area for public use.
The focus of the project was to improve water quality of the stream environment. This was achieved by providing opportunity for infiltration of the largely impervious stormwater catchment runoff, prior to releasing flows downstream. This opportunity was provided by remediating the existing landscape and providing a new sediment basin and wetland.
The structural engineering involvement on the project was to design and detail the new gravity dam wall of the sediment basin. The feasibility of the project was governed by tight budget limits which presented challenges to the engineering team. The engineering solution adopted was to use a mixture of precast concrete elements in combination with traditional reinforced concrete. One of the key constraints of the project was the poor latent founding conditions resultant from the original backfilling. A system of metal screw piers was employed and provided an elegant solution to the geotechnical features.

Description of services
Stromlo leisure centre is the newest addition to the Stromlo Forest park. Canberra’s residents had their input in to what should be included in the leisure centre which will one day service more than 100,000 people in the region; the facility will include an eight lane 50m swimming pool, a 20m multipurpose pool, splash park and a gym of at least 700 square metres.
One of the main design features of the project is the glue laminated timber roof structure to the main pool hall. Glue laminated timber is common in Europe and other parts of the world, however large timber framed structures are still quite rare in Australia. This project included design and documentation of Pad & pier foundations, all flatwork (horizontal slabs – on grade and reinforced suspended slabs), Timber to main pool & all vertical elements (insitu concrete columns, precast walls, structural steel)

This boutique residential project is based on the Gold Coast in Queensland and will form part of Sunland’s $1.3b Lakes Development. The design features four multi-story midrise towers housing 298 luxury apartments. The development is located adjacent to an existing lake in Mermaid Waters and includes a boardwalk to the lake perimeter and significant public space between the towers, which provides connection to the adjacent Lanes Retail Development.
A two-story basement is included within the development, which has required the structure to be designed for hydrostatic forces to maintain flood immunity to the basement. The buidling also includes a complex façade featuring a sinuous shaped feature cladding formed of GRC modules supported off a structural steel sub-framing system.
The project is currently under design, with the first towers due for completion mid-2021.

The perimeter consisted of structural steel framing and metal sheet cladding to provide vehicle impact barrier requirements, along with precast walls to the North elevation.
Due to the locations of the ramps and cross-overs with access roads below, additional attention was needed to ensure column locations and structure was flexible to allow access below whilst still providing adequate support. The external screen, which also acts as the vehicle impact barrier, entailed design and detailing to meet the required tolerances for installation. The structure was also designed to support the possible future 7 storey tower above the Level 8 roof slab.

The Goodwin Aged Care services set about developing a visionary redevelopment of their historic Ainslie Village Site to create a modern facility for not only high and low care needs of the elderly, but inclusive of a sophisticated urban living design to suit a new generation of retirees.
Sellick Consultants were engaged in the initial stage and then through to the completion of the $200M staged development in the civil, hydraulic and structural disciplines.
The initial stage requiring significant investigation of existing services and planning to cater for the development of this size. All services having to be planned for services connection of later stages without disruption to the continual operation and staged start-up of the facilities. These early stage works having to consider not only the existing and new buildings, but the significant trees within the village which had environmental protection.
The staged build was undertaken over a five year period where design and due process had to cater for the changing labour market where flexibility of design eventuated in a mixture of structural developments based on market forces of the time.
The stage I RACF being a three level complex of a post-tensioned concrete frame with a main three level atrium with a curtain glazed wall system.
Stage II and III being four level apartment complexes with basement carparking designed as a precast flooring and partial wall system.
Stage IV was the main central activities with two 4 storey residential apartment towers and a full basement carpark under the footprint. The structure being of post-tensioned concrete and steel framed roofing.
The late stages V and VI being supportive 4 storey apartments with basement carparking and highly detailed cantilevered roofing systems.
The development successfully winning multiple local and national awards following completion.

As principle structural engineers on the project, Sellick Consultants were engaged to undertake concept design through to final design and documentation for the full project; including concrete slabs, structural steelwork, precast walls and blockwork walls.
The project consisted of approx. 27,000m2of internal slab on-grade, with structural steel to support the roof and walls. The external cladding comprised of Kingspan isolated panels.
A requirement from IKEA was that the slabs were to be of very high quality which required Sellick Consultants to have exceptional design and detailing of peer reinforcement to help control shrinkage cracking and allow a high quality burnished finish. To assist with this quality, the roofing and walls were installed prior to concreting to protect the concrete finish.
Regarding the steelwork and cladding elements, options were investigated and incorporated to minimise the variances in flashing details; while still achieving the required look for IKEA.

The High Court of Australia building was completed in 1980 and registered on the National Heritage List in 2007.
Since the opening refurbishments have been undertaken requiring structural audits to be carried out as part of the due diligence for the works in which Sellick Consultants were engaged to assess compliance with existing codes and development of floor loadings.
Ongoing refurbishment works and external works has seen the retention of Sellick Consultants for both structural and hydraulic services.
Recent upgrades to the dilapidated Queens’s courtyard and apron to the main water feature required Sellick Consultants to undertake a concise investigation into the condition and proposed remediation of the heritage area to meet the strict criteria objectives.
Working with restricted design parameters regarding levels and existing carpark structures under, Sellick Consultants developed a workable solution that enabled the rebuilding of pavements and drainage, yet retaining the health of the Queens tree area. The final result providing a new accessible courtyard for the viewing public, meeting safety and security objectives in the design.

Old Parliament House

Old Parliament House known formerly as the Provisional Parliament House is a heritage listed building originally opened in 1927 before being decommissioned in 1988 with the building of the New Parliament House.
Over this period the Old Parliament House had numerous refurbishments and extensions to cater for the demands of a growing country. Following decommissioning, the Federal Government recommended that the building form part of the National Museum of Australia with the building renovated back in part to the original. This work involved demolition of the upper level structures and making good the roofing profiles back to the original construction.
Sellick Consultants were engaged by the leading contractor for structural design and advice for the upper level works. This requiring practical solutions in difficult construction conditions retaining the integrity and amenity of the building below.
Throughout the construction phase, Sellick Consultants had to be considerate of the heritage significance of the work and safety of work method.
Today the Old Parliament House resembles the historic building in its original construction, now the Museum of Australian Democracy.

Goulburn Country Motors required a new establishment in the historic Goulburn Township to amalgamate a division requiring to service several brands to meet the local demand of the country township.
The family owned company engaged the services of one of the regions predominant architectural firms to set about designing a modern showroom with an articulated frontage befitting the menu of brands available.

The existing site had to be remediated to provide an elevated platform providing a better visual impact on the street frontage requiring stormwater diversion and neighbouring effects to provide a level platform to facilitate the operational usage of vehicular movements throughout the complex.
The structure was primarily of a steel frame with precast concrete walls to the main vehicle service area. Partially restrained free standing blade elements with flying buttress steel frames made the main striking features of the front façade. The result presenting modern facility for the client with a notable attention drawing façade.

Bruce Stadium Upgrade WorksSporting Facility

The Bruce Stadium, now known as Canberra Stadium was awarded preliminary rounds of the Olympic Football in 1997. To host these games, the ACT Government redeveloped the Stadium dropping the playing surface to increase the seating capacity to 25,000 creating a playing surface from the original oval shape to rectangular.
In dropping the surface some 3.0m required the main western stand to have major underpinning works to retain the stand as part of the new works. The successful contractor undertaking the western side works engaged Sellick Consultants to design and supervise the underpinning of the Stadium.
The work required due diligence in assessing the existing structure to determine the build type and loading based on site assessment due to the lack of historical documents available. Temporary shoring had to be designed to allow the removal of existing structural pads to form a new structural system set below the lower playing surface, with consideration to retaining the shoring to act as permanent support for the refurbished Stadium with auxiliary facilities being introduced.

The National Zoo & AquariumSpecial Use

The National Zoo and Aquarium was developed by one of the regions local entrepreneurial visionaries, Richard Tindale, who embarked on providing an asset to the Canberra tourism industry through his own passion for animals.
In setting this vision up, the family acquired a dilapidated facility formally known as the National Aquarium in 1998, having originally opened in 1990 with the main attraction being a large water tunnel which housed a range of marine life.
Sellick Consultants were engaged to undertake a structural due diligence of the property at the time of purchase and has been retained by the family as the Zoo’s principle consultants for structural, civil and hydraulic services through major upgrades and redevelopment of the complex. Now one of Australia’s premiere Zoo’s incorporating a remodelled aquarium, private lodging, animal enclosures, water features and open range exhibits.
The first task undertaken by Sellick Consultants was to advise on the decommissioning and establishment of a new main aquarium tank where the original construction methods presented very restricted options requiring innovative design to work with such parameters in an aggressive environment.
The new aquarium tank being designed in the original main café where the floor loading was restricted to 3.0kPa and the new tank applying loads in excess of 25.0kPa.
The design requiring a tank which could transfer loads to identified supports which had to be either restrengthened or introduced to the lower aquarium floor. The concrete mix had to be specifically designed for the salt water environment and waterproof due to the tank being located over public floor levels below.
The redevelopment of the Zoo required a broad range of civil engineering capabilities from soil mechanics of earth dams and foundations in saturated soils, structures from high level pedestrian bridges both linear and non-linear cable stayed to extensive retaining structures, and landscape moats with lakes.
The design of safe enclosures required first principle assessment for safe loading of structures where standards had not been developed for guidance. The design of main pavements through floodways and a reticulated fire hydrant system throughout the entire complex brought together a holistic design approach requiring all disciplines.
Sellick Consultants have become recent sponsors of the Zoo in support of the vision in which the family have created to provide the region an asset for the local and national tourism industry.

The existing heritage homestead was the main residence for the district built in the 18500’s and most fertile land in NSW. The heritage value of the property requiring the retainment and refurbishment as part of the major additions to the homestead.

Royal Hotel Queanbeyan

The Royal Hotel is a heritage listed Hotel originally built by the Byrne family in 1926 where the early Federation politicians and dignitaries would stay when the old Parliament House was being built.
In recent years, the Hotel was run down and in a dilapidated state with a history of preceding alterations to the internal structural fabric, most of which had no building records.
New owners set about with a vision to undertake extensive refurbishment works to develop the historic Hotel to again be an icon for the City of Queanbeyan. As part of these works, the owners engaged the services of Sellick Consultants to undertake a structural and hydraulic audit of the existing building and work through the feasibility for the proposed works, yet maintain the Heritage value of the building.
The development work required an extension to the cellar basement level and major structural alterations to the load bearing elements of the ground floor. Difficulty in working with existing undocumented structural alterations created extensive challenges to also bring the new works to current building code compliances.
The work involved not only removing structural foundations and establishing new ones at the basement level, but removing main structural walls and columns at ground floor level, yet retaining the existing upper level masonry structures which were to be retained.
The end result creating new atrium spaces, clear areas for gaming and restaurant producing a modern facility, once again retaining the icon status.

The Queanbeyan Leagues Club was originally founded in 1963, two years prior to the establishment of Sellick Consultants.
In 1972, the club was burnt to the ground and a new building established. Due to the fast track operation of re-establishment of the new club, the historical building records were never archived.
In 1995 a major refurbishment of the club was undertaken where Sellick Consultants were engaged as the principle structural engineers. With lack of historical records a pain stacking assessment of the original structure had to be undertaken where the refurbishment works involved the removal of major structural supports to the club. Sellick Consultants investigative works was paramount in enabling the core architectural vision to materialise with associated obstacles in the new foundations that were required. The new club having been built over the existing floor structure of the original club that in turn had been built directly over the preceding club which had never been completely demolished.
Sellick Consultants were then later engaged to undertake major later additions and renovations in 2005 and 2011.
